What We Charge
Initial Fee-Only Flat Retainer
We start with a six month to one year Initial Engagement Phase. This Initial Fee-Only Flat Retainer is based off of the number of meetings, complexity, and topics to be covered. This phase is the most involved in which we break down and rebuild your financial picture. To give you an idea of what you might expect to pay, below is the full range of costs for the initial phase:
Simple Initial Phase - $8,000
Complex Ultra-High Net Worth Initial Phase - $60,000
Monitoring Fee-Only Flat Retainer
We stand out with a fee structure that is unseen in the majority of our industry. We do not base our fees off of quarter-end portfolio values. We do not have a conflict of interest to place you in an allocation that does not align with your risk tolerance.
What we do is combine the Investment Management with our other services offered to calculate our static annual fee. You pay for the work we provide with a price custom tailored to your situation. To give you an idea of what you might expect to pay, here are three ranges of Assets Under Management and their potential range of annual fees in dollars:
$1 million = $8,000 - $10,000
$4 million = $21,000 - $23,000
$6 million = $25,000 - $27,000
What you sign for is what you pay. That number is periodically re-evaluated after a two-year period, but we do not adjust your fee without presenting and you agreeing to a new engagement.
What They Charge
Assets Under Management
With other firms, this is where you would see the words "Assets Under Management". Assets Under Management (AUM) is the total market value of assets that an investment company or financial institution manages on behalf of investors. The majority of firms charge their clients using a ratio of the AUM times a percentage. The industry average for this calculation would be a $1,000,000 AUM client would be charged and annual fee of 1.0% of their assets per year totaling $10,000. For 1.0% of your hard earned savings, you are receiving a single service: "Investment Management". As an account grows, so will the fees paid to the other firms.
When it comes to Financial Goal Planning, Cash Management, Small Business Planning, and the rest of the services found on our How We Work page, you will typically be paying "a la carte". With our over 70-years of combined experience, we have learned a successful financial profile cannot be achieved through simple Investment Management, and the industry overcharges for that s
There are potential conflicts of interest that we see with how other firms charge. When creating an allocation for a clients portfolio, the amount of risk the portfolio should take on is based off of your, the clients, tolerance. With an Assets Under Management fee structure, the advisor has a bias to place you in a more aggressive portfolio, potentially taking on more risk than you are comfortable with, in order to maximize future fees from the account. We think we have a better way of assessing fees, and we know it will cost you less to receive more.
Why We Do It
